Interior

Featuring exquisite materials, the utmost level of craftsmanship, and thoughtful design, the interior of the Mercedes-Benz GLS is truly luxurious. Soft-touch surfaces outline a clean, ergonomically-sound dash with subtle metallic details and eucalyptus wood trim highlights ? you can also select from other trims including warm Burl Walnut, mysterious Piano Black Lacquer, or sporty Aluminum. Nappa leather wraps the steering wheel, with a wood and leather combination optional, along with heating.

Interior space is generous, with seating for seven passengers. The rear row offers some of the most room of any third-row vehicle, with 35 inches of legroom and 38.9 inches of headroom, plenty for even larger adults. First and second rows, meanwhile, offer over 38 inches of legroom and 40 inches or more of headroom. Cargo capacity can be expanded up to 93.8 cubic feet with the rear two rows folded down, providing incredible versatility.

Convenience matters to the modern driver, and the GLS provides plenty, including a power liftgate opened via the SmartKey remote and a power driver seat with steering column and sideview mirror memory. KEYLESS-GO means you can unlock the doors and start the vehicle without ever having to take the SmartKey out of your pocket or purse. Dual-zone automatic climate control can be equipped with a cabin-air purification system, to remove impurities from recirculation.

Performance

As with all other Mercedes-Benz vehicles, the trim is indicative of the engine under the hood. GLS450 models feature the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, producing 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque - plenty for reactive city performance and high-speed highway cruising. Stepping up to the GLS550, a twin-turbo 4.7-liter V8 generates 449 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, pushing the performance envelope while also achieving 14 MPG in the city and 18 MPG on the highway. Both of these are equipped with the 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission with shift paddles for driver-input gear changes. The performance-minded Mercedes-AMG GLS63 holds a 577-horsepower, handcrafted, twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter engine that creates 561 lb-ft of torque, for blistering acceleration - around town it gets 13 miles per gallon, and up to 17 MPG on the open road. Every version of the GLS comes with 4MATIC all-wheel drive standard, for confidence on all road types and in all sorts of weather. DYNAMIC SELECT offers four preset modes plus a personal mode that allow you to adapt the throttle response, shift progression, and other performance attributes to your driving style. All engines are capable of towing up to 7,500 pounds when properly equipped.

Safety

Extensive safety features will provide you with the utmost confidence inside the Mercedes-Benz GLS. It begins with features designed to help avoid accidents, such as the Antilock Braking System with Brake Assist and adaptive braking technology, providing for minimal stopping distance. An Electronic Stability Program applies braking to individual wheels and can reduce engine power when it detects wheelspin, understeer, or oversteer, as is often seen in emergency maneuvering. Optional systems include Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, a Surround View camera system, and much more. 11-way airbag protection includes three-row side curtain air bags and two-stage front air bags.
